Adjustments & Manipulation

Chiropractic adjustments are the foundation for care in our chiropractic office. The primary purpose of an adjustment, is to improve joint function and reduce the adjacent nerve irritation. The reason for this, is to allow the spine to perform its normal range of motion duties, and more importantly, to reduce the signals from the nerves up to the brain, asking for help. When the brain “thinks” it has to protect your body (stress on the nerves), it produces inflammation, shortens ligaments and tendons, and produces muscle spasms so that you are forced to “rest” the area. When you ignore the brain and “push through it”, the brain increases the inflammation, spasms, etc. If you still don’t stop, it produces scar tissue and joint degeneration to help protect itself.

Some of the more common and well documented reasons for visiting a chiropractor for adjustments are lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, pain between your shoulders, rotator cuff strains, pelvic torsion, ITB tension, piriformis syndrome and more. There are many different ways to adjust the spine and extremities. Your doctor will determine which way is best for you after a thorough examination and detailed history. Adjustments are usually painless and most often feel very good and relieving. If you are nervous, the doctor can use more subtle and gentle techniques to provide you relief.
