A custom foot orthotic is a device that aligns feet into an anatomically correct orientation. The ideal candidates for this insole- like medical appliances are those people with poor foot mechanics, plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and other conditions that might compromise mobility. Usually, these candidates complain of a persistent heel, knee, hip, and back pain.
In our office, we prescribe functional orthotics that help “stabilize” the lower body. Stabilizers help eliminate excessive motion to the feet, ankles, knees and hips, while still allowing, normal healthy motion that the foot was designed to do. They are not super hard and uncomfortable. They feel good and take a lot of pressure off the body. They are made specific to the patients individual feet mechanics. They can be made into inserts that go into the shoes you already own, or can be made into custom sandals, flip flops, slippers and shoes. If your particular foot injury requires something specific for the foot only, you will be referred to a local podiatrist instead.
