Electrical muscle stimulation is used to help relax tense, tight muscles. It is used in our office before adjustments, to make it easier to adjust and to help prevent muscle spasms from “pulling” on the joints and “un doing” the adjustments afterwards. It is also used to help reduce inflammation and decrease pain. When used in pain management, an EMS causes slight numbness in the area used, it boosts the release of chemical pain relievers, and it prevents motor nerves from sending pain signals to the central nervous system.
There are various modes or settings that can be applied based on your particular needs. The doctor will prescribe the proper type for your condition.
